- The so-called "Missouri Model" of juvenile justice reform received more coverage on CNN.
- Meanwhile, Louisiana, which has been attempting for several years to reform its own juvenile justice system by importing the Missouri Model, is seeing mixed results.
- The New York Times reported that four youth prisons in New York routinely broke kids' bones, "shattered" their teeth, and gave them concussions in attempts to discipline them.
- In an editorial, the Times excoriated the state for doing little for decades about its abusive juvenile detention facilities, and cheered the pressure brought to bear by a lawsuit threatened by the U.S. Department of Justice. The ACLU also pointed out that it had specifically documented similar abuses in New York's juvenile detention facilities in 2006.
- The two judges in Pennsylvania who were accused of jailing teens for cash had their plea agreements rejected; they may face trial.
- Unworried by teen abuse of prescription drugs? Turns out calls to poison control centers over teen abuse of ADHD drugs have increased by 76% between 1998 and 2005.
