All you have to do is visit our Juvenile Justice Reform and Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment LinkedIn group and request to join.
Our group will be especially beneficial if you are a:

  • Policy maker or legislator
  • Professional in the field of juvenile justice or adolescent substance abuse treatment
  • Family or youth advocate

Here are a three examples of some of the discussions taking place in our LinkedIn group:

  1. Barb Farrell, a graduate student studying criminology and criminal justice, asks “Are we doing enough to direct our youth before they enter the Criminal Justice System?” She describes a program that is used in some school systems in the U.S. to prepare students for school and life, but only in an alternative education system. What suggestions do you have to prepare youth for their adult life and prevent them from deviance?
  2. Ken Schmetterer, a partner in the litigation department, posted the article "Your Son’s Been Arrested.” (Now What?) to spur a dialogue about the steps to take if your child is arrested. With 19 comments, this post created a robust discussion on how to prevent kids from entering the juvenile justice system and possibilities for schools to be involved.
  3. Hyacinth Charles, a director of family health services, posted a link to the Centers for Disease Control Grand Rounds: Preventing Youth Violence video that explores the burden of youth violence and the approaches and partnerships that are needed to prevent it. A discussion with members’ reactions to the video and their own ideas on solutions to the problem of youth violence accompanied this post.

Request group membership and join the conversation! We look forward to your contributions.
