The House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee approved aprpoximately $70 million in funds for the Second Chance Act -- including funding for the the Mentally Ill Offender Act (JMCHP), Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants, Byrne Competitive Grants, drug courts, prison rape prevention and prosecution, and residential substance abuse treatment‚Ä®. The bill will now move forward for a vote by the House of Representatives; meanwhile, a Senate committee approved reauthorization of the Second Chance Act for a vote by the full Senate.
