National Juvenile Justice Network Launches Fiscal Policy Center; Seeks Applicants for Budget Analyst

In December, I met with Sarah Bryer, Executive Director of the National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN), and asked her what it was planning for the coming months. You can see her answer in the video above -- tools for local sites to help them push juvenile justice reform during the fiscal downturn.

Now, the NJJN is about to launch a new Fiscal Policy Center. Here's what they say about it:

Despite the current challenge of staggering budget shortfalls and widespread fiscal woes, there is also a great moment of opportunity for states to rethink their juvenile justice policies and evaluate whether they are getting a good return on the dollar for their investments.

In order to take advantage of this window for reform, state-based advocacy groups must be fully equipped with current research, well-framed moral and public safety arguments, and the fiscal details necessary to actually advance change during tight budget times.

The National Juvenile Justice Network’s Fiscal Policy Center will provide reformers with crucial knowledge and tools around state budgets and corresponding messaging and communications strategies. This knowledge will enable reformers to better understand their state fiscal architectures in order to maintain existing reforms and leverage fiscal constraints into progressive programming.
