More Youth Mentoring Funds

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) has announced two more grants related to youth mentoring. Their deadlines are almost upon us, so here's the details:

1.  Mentoring Initiative for Foster Care Youth
Deadline: June 8, 2009. OJJDP will assist communities in establishing or expanding mentoring and support services for youth in foster care and foster care youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The program?s goals are to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by enhancing the capacity of local community efforts to provide mentoring and support services to youth in foster care and strengthening the capacity of local efforts to develop and expand community mentoring collaboratives and partnerships, integrate best practices into mentoring service models for foster care youth, and develop strategies to recruit and maintain mentors serving this population. $500K for 3 years.
2.  National Youth Mentoring Training and Technical Assistance Initiative
Deadline: June 15, 2009. The goal of this program is to build competency, performance and capacity for mentoring programs across the nation as well as provide training and technical assistance support to OJJDP funded mentoring programs and initiatives. The successful applicant will provide training and technical assistance to support mentoring programs and initiatives funded by OJJDP, including the Recovery Act National Mentoring Program and the Recovery Act Local Youth Mentoring Initiative. $1.5 million for 2 years.
