About Us

Washington County is a 727 square-mile area located on the western edge of the City of Portland, is the second largest and fastest growing urban county in Oregon, with approximately 550,000 individuals. Though predominantly urban, approximately 10% of the county population lives outside of the urban growth boundary in rural areas. The youth population in Washington County, Oregon, is over 140,000 — the second largest among Oregon counties. Two decades of explosive population and employment growth have developed this area into Oregon’s most ethnically diverse community. Of youth involved in the juvenile justice system, roughly half present with substance abuse and/or mental health indicators.

Reclaiming Futures Washington County seeks to create and foster a safe community for young people and families — a community where youth are empowered and supported in all arenas of their lives. Through collaboration, the Reclaiming Futures Washington County team is working to facilitate systems to change to ensure youth receive fair, equitable, and collaborative service plans according to his or her individual needs.

The overall objectives are to:

  • Foster cross-system collaboration
  • Identify youth & family strengths and needs
  • Connect youth and families to the proper systems and services
  • Ensure families and communities have the tools and skills needed to address each youth’s needs
  • Provide evidence based and culturally-appropriate interventions and services
  • Create opportunities for young people establish meaningful connections in their community

Funding Sources

Washington County Juvenile Department efforts to implement the Reclaiming Futures model are funded through a two and a half year grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, as monitored by the Reclaiming Futures National Program Office.
